We now have the first instance of one of our learners testing positive for Covid-19.

The learner was isolated and tested on 09.11.2020 as a result of a family member testing positive, and the learner has now had a positive result.

Upon discussion with the family we have identified that the young person potentially started to have a cough on 05.11.2020. Therefore their infectious period would be 03.11.2020-15.11.2020. During this time the learner has attended college on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 9th November.

We are in dialogue with Public Health England and follow their advice and guidance. As a result we have immediately isolated three groups of learners and staff within College, whilst arrangements are made for them all to return home, where they are required to isolate for 14 days. Should any of these people show symptoms of Covid-19, they are requested to get a Covid test straightaway.

These three groups may have had close contact with that the learner in College during this time and their isolation for 14 days is very important for reducing further spread of COVID-19. We will continue to collaborate with Public Health England to manage the confirmed case of coronavirus at Oakley College. At present this is a single case but we have been advised that, because of the changing situation regarding local infection rates in the West Kent area, we may expect further cases.

We will continue to inform all parents, carers and other relevant people and organisations throughout. We will also provide resources and access via Microsoft Teams so that learners can continue their learning at home.

Please be assured that the safety of our learners, our staff and everyone associated with Oakley College is paramount.
